Background: The Running of the Bulls is now 11^th year.  If you are unfamiliar with our race; costumed cows and bulls chase you through our 5k course.  Some of them are Olympic Athletes, others just like dressing up.

100% of the proceeds of the Running of the Bulls go to our community beneficiaries.  Last year we distributed over $6000 to A Foundation Building Strength ($3,000), Gunn HS Class of 2012 ($1500), Bay Area Track Club ($1335), and the Palo Alto Grand Prix ($225).

The same charities will be recognized this year, and also $1 of every entry will be designated to Racing Hearts.  They bring Automatic External Difibulators(AEDs) to athleic events where sudden cardiac arrest could be an issue.  They will be providing an AED to the Running of the Bulls.

Prizes: Our sponsors provide 50 awesome prizes, and everyone has a chance to win.   Our prize structure differs from most races.  Our overall (male and female) winners are guaranteed a prize.  In general, the more cows and bulls you beat, the better odds you have to win a prize.  Awards are instantaneous…we hold no post-race award ceremony.  The Bulls race is part of the Palo Alto Grand Prix, and your performance will be scored in our annual competition.

Kids’ Clinic: We’ve always been a family-focused event.  During the adult race, the Bay Area Track Club and Joy’s Jackrabbits will be co-hosting a kids’ clinic for all kids 5 and over.  This allows parents to run the adult race while  kids learn track basics (stretching, drills, jumping)  from professional runners.

Kids’ Races: This is one of our favorite parts of the event morning.  Kids run short races around the Gunn HS track alongside our costumed Olympians.  Races are for babies (who waddle 40m) up to 9 years olds (who run a half mile).  Kids also have the option of running the full Bulls 5k, too.

Snacks: We always Hobbees Coffee Cake, Coffee and Milk as your reward for finishing.  (We can practically guarantee that the milk does now come from the cows running the race!).
